Principles of Giving

We believe that tithes and offering are an essential part of worship that reflects our acknowledgement of God as our Sustainer and Provider.
 

We believe in the following principles of giving:

  • Giving comes from a clean heart: “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:10).
  • Giving comes from a compassionate heart: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” (James 1:27).
  • Giving comes from a cheerful heart: “So let each one give as he purposes in his, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

  • 1. What are my options for donation categories?

    GENERAL – Donors issue this command along with a dollar figure for NLCCs General Operating Account.  This discretionary money is used for day-to-day operations including but not limited to utilities, building maintenance, insurance, salary, and department expenses.
     
    If you don’t include a keyword in your text, it will automatically be directed to this account.
     
    BUILDING – Donors issue this command along with a dollar figure for NLCCs Building Fund Account.  This money is used exclusively for expenses related to leasing or purchasing a new facility.
     
    EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE:  Donors issue this command along with a dollar figure for NLCCs Emergency Assistance Account.   This discretionary money helps address needs of NLCC members and community who may be experiencing financial hardship based on unexpected circumstances.
     
    EVENT – Donors issue this command to pay for NLCC special events.
     
     
  • 2. What's the processing fee?

    Our partnership with Stripe allows us to have low processing fees for online giving or texting, based on your method of giving.
     
    A US customer’s donation from an ACH  (checking account) is $.25 per transaction with no additional fees. 
     
    A US customer’s donation from a credit card is 2.3% of donation plus $.30 per transaction. 
     
    Donors also have the option of covering the processing fee(s) to maximize total giving.
     
     
  • 3. Is the processing fee the same whether I give online or text?

    Possibly. 
     
    If both your online giving and text to give are linked to your checking account, the processing fee will be the same because donations come from the same source.  The same applies if they are both linked to a credit card.
     
    If you setup your online giving and text to give for two different sources, i.e. checking account for one and credit card for another, then the processing fee is based on different rates.
     
     
     
  • 4. How do I create an account for NLCC online giving?

    Identify your donation amount to our giving categories.
     
    Connect your checking account and/or credit card to your NLCC giving account.
     
     
  • 5. Do I have to create a different account if I want to donate both online and by text?

  • 1. How do I setup Text to Give?

    Text to give for one-time or recurring donations involves six steps:

    Text a donation amount to the short code 84321. This is a shared short code used by other churches in our area.
     
    If your number isn’t set up for text-to-give, a setup link will be texted to you. Tap the setup link to be guided to the next step. 
     
    Select New Life Community Church of Pontiac. A list of churches in the area will be suggested. If your phone number is already a part of our church’s database, the appropriate church will be listed as a suggested organization.
     
    Enter your email address and, if prompted, your name.
     
    Enter the payment method you’d like to use for text-to-give. If you’re already a donor and you’ve added a payment method before (a bank account for ACH or a credit card), then you can optionally log in to access your saved payment methods.
     
    Complete your initial setup donation. The initial donation, in most cases, will go to the default category called “general.” However, donations can also be directed to the “building” category or "event" category.

  • 5. What happens if I make a mistake while donating?

    No worries!  Here'a a list of keywords you can text in order to correct a previous text to give donation.
     
    REFUND – Donors can issue this command within 30 minutes of donating to initiate an automatic refund from a credit card. 
     
    MISTAKE – Donors can issue this command to cancel a donation coming from an ACH (checking account).  
     
    STOP/START – The “stop” command immediately deactivates text-to-give for the sender. The “start” command will re-enable text-to-give for the sender.
     
    HELP – This will show the donor helpful information about Text-to-Give and show the list of active funds.
     
     
  • 6. I'm a visional learner. Can I watch a video tutorial?
